Press Coverage – Review Disparity Between Budget And Full-Price Games – Zzap 64, December 1987

A fierce controversy in the letters pages of Zzap 64, in December 1987, about the amount of space given to budget software produced a remarkable editorial reply. The readers thought that budget games should not be downgraded and given much shorter reviews than full price games. Lloyd Mangram (believed to be the pseudonym of whoever was editing the magazine at the time) set out in full the reasons why this was not commercially sensible. We had always known that magazines resented the popularity of budget games because they received less advertising but rarely was this expressed in public.

Unfortunately Zzap64 printed these pages with a green background. It is not possible to scan into OCR and it is too long for me to type.
